The Love of God

Today I am going to preach at one of the local nursing homes. This is something that is important for churches to do - that is, take church to those who can't go to church.

Preparing for this afternoon, I read through that ever popular Bible verse, John 3:16. Except today I notice something that I haven't really paid much attention to before.

The only begotten of the Father was sent because there was no other way by which men might be saved. You see, just like the serpent, we are told "the Son of Man must be lifted up" (v. 14) so that we might have eternal life. There is absolutely, positively no other way to be saved.

If there were some other way, "then Christ is dead in vain" (Gal 2:21) and Jesus lied when he said: "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6).

Thinking about this, read John 3:16 again, and notice the Love of God. "God sooooo loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (emphasis mine). Now, that is love.

May the Lord bless you today.
